i've always loved the song, "count your blessings" (hymn #241) and the message of gratitude it sends. as i face feelings of homesickness, the best thing i've found to do is think of all the amazing people + opportunities i've been blessed with...and go to the temple. because the temple is the best place in the whole world.
wishing you all a wonderful week.

Tonight I was encouraged by a friend to read
Teachings of the Presidents: Gordon B. Hinckley
Chapter 3: Cultivating an Attitude of Happiness and a Spirit of Optimism
and I'm sooo glad I did. I've always been a fan and supporter of President Hinckley, but with his death when I was 10 years old I know I didn't gain all the understanding from him that I would like to.
If you have a few minutes, PLEASE take the time to go read this. I promise you will spiritually uplifted & edified.
A few (ookay, perhaps more than 'a few') of my favorite thoughts from that wonderful man...
"Keep trying. Be believing. Be happy. Don’t get discouraged. Things will work out."
"I come … with a plea that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I’m suggesting that we accentuate the positive. I’m asking that we look a little deeper for the good, that we still our voices of insult and sarcasm, that we more generously compliment virtue and effort."
"How magnificently we are blessed! How thankful we ought to be! … Cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving for the blessing of life and for the marvelous gifts and privileges each of us enjoy. "
"We live in the fulness of times. Mark that phrase. Mark the word fulness. It denotes all of [the] good that has been gathered together [from] the past and restored to earth in this final dispensation."
"In all of living have much of fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured."
"Don’t belittle yourself. Never forget that you are a child of God. You have a divine birthright. Something of the very nature of God is within you."
"Believe in yourself. Believe in your capacity to do great and good things. Believe that no mountain is so high that you cannot climb it. Believe that no storm is so great that you cannot weather it. … You are a child of God, of infinite capacity."
^^don't you want to grow up to be like Gordon B. Hinckley? I sure do.

infatuate
[verb in-fach-oo-eyt; adjective, noun in-fach-oo-it, -eyt]
verb (used with object), infatuated, infatuating.
1. to inspire or possess with a foolish or unreasoning passion
I am truly infatuated with the sky...especially the hawaiian sky.
Most of the time when I think something is important or beautiful, I take a picture of it. This would explain the reason I have a looooot of pictures of the sky on my phone currently.
The clouds. The blue sky. The silhouettes of the palm trees. These things added together create the most beautiful skies my 18 years of life have ever seen. Take a look for yourself (although pictures never seem to do the world's magnificence justice)...

Today I had the most interesting & thought-provoking conversation with my cute roommates. After hearing different comments about what different people find beautiful, it made me think to myself, "Had, whyyy do you worry so much?"
I love the quote, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," because I feel that it's just so truthful. Every single person, in every single place on this earth has something beautiful inside of them - and as I meet lots & lots of new people on this new adventure, I'm going to try and find that beautiful thing.
Because my roommates were the ones that initiated this thought process, I want to share something beautiful about each one of them:
Madison - an interest in others, an amazing giver of advice
Alyssa - a desire to make those around her feel cared for
Mikayla - a pizzaz for life, makes everyone around her giggle.
Love those three & that I get to live with them for the next little while. Thankful for the ladies of #314.

I think these two words (see title of post) perfectly describe my feelings at this time...
Anxious: I'm far, far away from everyone & everything I've ever known. The time difference between here & Utah is 4 hours...which just seems to make talking to loved ones from home more difficult. I start COLLEGE classes in 2 days & I really, really want to do well in them.
Awestruck: This place that I'm living is incredibly beautiful. I love the three girls that I'm living with. The temple (my faaavorite place) is within walking distance from me. Everyone I've met thus far has been very friendly. I've been able to feel the spirit & my Heavenly Father's love for me many times. God is good. I know this could one of the best experiences of my life if I make it that way, so that's my goal. It's already been hard, and although I'm not a crier, I've cried a few times.
This is the life I've been blessed with, and I'm so grateful for these experiences that I know will open my eyes up to so many new things. Please keep me in your prayers as I adjust to a new surrounding. Sending my love to all those who have helped me get this far.

Tomorrow begins a whole new part of my life, because tomorrow I leave from Provo, UT and move to Laie, HI.
With all the unknowns come feelings of anxiousness, excitement, and wonder. What will a normal day feel like? Who will I meet there that I will keep in touch with for the rest of my life? How will I adjust being so far away from family & friends? But, most importantantly, how will I keep God at the center of my life?
I am eager to start this new adventure & see what is in store for me during the next few years.
Aloha,
Had.
